Bank Street Buzz Coverage of DebateWelcome back to the Bankstreet Buzz! We are reporting live on the final debate! Each candidate had their opportunity to sway the viewers and audience with their opinions. They answered questions on the recurring and new issues fighting control in our world. They stated their plans to help transform this world into something different and better.
Tardigrade International News: Bank Street Debate Coverage of Uma & EllieUma and Ellie have many plans to help a lot of the pressing problems in our country. They support the BLM movement, they want to make stricter laws on gun control, and they also plan to put the Green New Deal into action. All of these plans are ones that the people value because they affect the population every day.
Uma and Ellie have made it clear that racial inequality/discrimination and the Black Lives Matter movement are very important to them. At the recent debate they shared about their three step plan to end racism in the United States. The plan would address police brutality and racism in the criminal justice system as well as promote racial awareness. On their website, they went more in-depth into how exactly they will confront police brutality and its unfortunate prominence in the US. Uma and Ellie will create programs that all officers as well as officers-in-training will have to participate in. In addition, they will also enforce new rules against racism in the police force. Officers who do not abide by their new rules will have to undergo a much more aggressive punishment than officers guilty of similar crimes are being charged with currently. Ultimately, racial inequality and discrimination will be a priority of Uma and Ellie’s if they win the election. Gun control has been a top priority for Uma’s campaign. We’ve heard her defend her strict background checks, mental health exams and careful ID and license examinations. There are of course the fears or doubts that this may not be enough to stop our country from abusing gun rights. At the end of the day, age does not stop a person from killing another, mental health can change and background doesn’t always mean everything. Nonetheless, she has a plan and was extremely clear and seemingly prepared when answering the questions. However, there was one thing mentioned during the debate that we, the audience, did not get a lot of information on. Uma claimed she would enforce policies and laws to increase gun control. What are those laws and policies? How will they get passed? Which people’s gun rights are the laws controlling? Sadly, the debate was her last opportunity to clarify this to her possible voters but there is still a chance we will hear from her via email. The Green New Deal is something that is really important to Uma and Ellie (Uma’s vice president) and they plan on funding it as soon as Uma becomes president, if they do. Putting the Green New Deal into effect will create thousands, maybe millions of green jobs, and that will put many or even all of the people that were previously unemployed from the pandemic employed and working for an organization that will help the world altogether. This might also lead to people leaving their home country to come to America to have a better life and to get jobs that pay well, and that helps everyone. They also plan on banning fracking in the U.S. Fracking is something that is supposed to help our country, but really it is making the situation much worse, so there is no reason for it to keep on going when it is doing more bad than it is doing good. Uma and Ellie strongly support the Green New Deal and they think that it will help our country a lot. Overall, Uma and Ellie seemed knowledgeable, professional and trustworthy. They had thought out plans for the daunting questions presented to them. Tardigrade News: Uma's Platform in Posters
